NEWCHURCH MALE VOICE CHOIR IS TO SUPPORT THE MARTIN POYNTER TRUST THROUGH ITS 2016 CONCERTS
Each year the members of the Newchurch Male Voice Choir, the longest-established male voice choir on the Island, select a charity to support during the year.
For 2016, the Choir is supporting the The Martin Poynter Trust with the proceeds from its concerts. Choir members get much pleasure out of singing, and through performing concerts we endeavour to share that pleasure with our audiences, and at the same time raise funds for worthy causes.
Strokes are a real risk to society, especially to the older generation, which is one of the reasons why The Martin Poynter Trust has been chosen. The Trust works in conjunction with The Stroke Association in promoting the prompt action needed if a stroke occurs, ongoing research into causes and treatment of strokes, and the after care of victims. These are matters close to our members' hearts.
Bob Cooper, the Choir’s Publicity Officer, said “Many of us knew Martin before he was taken from us by a stroke. He was a man who, through his work in the community with the Fire Service, and with West Wight Swimming Club, gave pleasure and reassurance to many children and families. The Choir wants to show our gratitude for his work and that being undertaken in his name. We hope that our concerts this year will help to raise much needed money for the Trust, through our audiences being happy and giving generously in the retiring collections”
Claire Poynter, for the Trust, said “To get the support of the Newchurch Male Voice Choir is such a fillip to our cause. We look forward to their concerts and their help in spreading the word about Strokes and their prevention”
The choir’s concert dates will be published on our website and Facebook pages as well as in the various Press outlets on the Island.
